If we are 5 miles or less from town - we ride our bikes to town every couple of days to shop for fresh food. And before you roll your eyes, it's good exercise too and just plain fun for US...
Farmers' markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers. From the traditional "Mercado's" in the Peruvian Andes to the unique street markets in Asia, growers all over the world gather weekly to sell their produce directly to the public. In the last decade they have become a favorite marketing method for many farmers throughout the United States, and a weekly ritual for many shoppers.
I also believe in supporting local farmers. Shopping at Farmer's Market cut out the middle man - and helps keep the money in the farmers pockets. Less handling which makes for cleaner food. Hey in some cases you will save some money in the process too.
Farmer Market's is a great way to give back to the community as well. Making friends, and loving the experience of small hometown feelings... And here is a great tip for RV full-timers, most Farmers Market are mainstream on the web and you can do your research of the area before parking your rig - like for us we found a web site for our area:
http://www.gorgegrown.com/resource/rufus-farmers-market.cfm
and according to the web they are not open for business until Fridays: Aug. 28, Sept. 11, 25, Oct. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. All this means is that we won't be here for any of it wonderful items... And so using the same knowledge I checked the area during this time frame and came up with this
Rathdrum Farmers Market
City Park off Hwy 53Saturdays 8:00am - 1:00pm
July 11 - October 17
Patti McElroy (208) 687-3293
P.O. Box 1378, Rathdrum, ID 83858

And so the smiles are back on... As we get closer to the opening season I will blog again - they have a crafting vendor there and I may apply so that we can sell some of our goods and build our winter income up... We'll have to see what their rules are. Application seems simply enough and the price of their spot is not bad at all 10 X 10 for $10.00...
So this summer get out and support your local Farmer's Market - it's a great way to support the local community, make new friends, and a heck of way to learn the secret tips of the area... Maybe your looking for that great fishing spot... What ever it is - enjoy!!
