My Two favorite Poems....
And my 2nd favorite poem
Brown Penny
I WHISPERED, 'I am too young,'
And then, 'I am old enough';
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
'Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.'
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.
O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.
William Butler Yeats
And my 2nd favorite poem
I Cultivate a White Rose
I have a white rose to tend
In July as in January;
I give it to the true friend
Who offers his frank hand to me.
And for the cruel one whose blows
Break the heart by which I live,
Thistle nor thorn do I give:
For him, too, I have a white rose.
Jose Marti
These have been my favorite since I was 10 years old... I had a chance to pull some of my old classic books and have these written on a plain sheet of paper and have carried them from where ever I lived. I wanted to share them you. What are your favorites?

Fish for salmon, sturgeon, steelhead and walleye from boats or for bass from the shore. Visit the Maryhill Museum of Art, located on a bluff just above the town of Maryhill, the Maryhill Winery for a wine tasting, and a full-scale replica of England's Stonehenge. Shopping and restaurants are available in Goldendale, 12 miles to the north; there is also a restaurant and lounge in Biggs Junction, Oregon, one mile to the south across the U.S. 97 bridge.

The Rufus Stone is a memorial to King William II, son of William the Conqueror, who was also known as Rufus. Rufus was killed by an arrow in the lungs in 1100 whilst hunting in the New Forest in Hampshire. Whilst this was reported as a hunting accident, the issue has never been resolved. His hunting compnion, Walter Tyrell, fled to France (the Sir Walter Tyrell inn just down the road is named after him). His brother, Harry, hurried to London to secure the treasury and the crown, and the nobles fled to secure their own estates. Rufus ruled with an iron fist, and whilst he was popular with the army, the people hated him. His body lay unattended for a few days and was then carried to Winchester Cathedral by a local charcoal-burner. Rufus was interred within Winchester Cathedral.
The Rufus Stone was erected by Earl De La Warr in 1745 and marks the approximate spot where King Rufus died. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the stone had become damaged and was encased in iron in 1841. The Rufus Stone is triangular with an inscription on each face. It stands in a glen in the new forest near to the A31.
One of the inscriptions on the Rufus Stone reads:
Here stood the oak tree, on which an arrow shot by Sir Walter Tyrell at a stag, glanced and struck King William the Second, surnamed Rufus, on the breast, of which he instantly died, on the second day of August, anno 1100. King William the Second, surnamed Rufus, being slain, as before related, was laid in a cart, belonging to one Purkis, and drawn from hence, to Winchester, and buried in the Cathedral Church, of that city
My friends Leila and Randy have some breath taking pictures in which I so wish I could post on this blog and so sorry world that you are stuck with my lame brain pictures. If you get a chance get here and see for yourself the beauty and power of the presence of this way cool land mark.....

Rufus, OR
Today is about yesterday (I feel like that's a title of a good book)... Fun facts about this hidden quiet paradise. And that's just what this area is Paradise.
According to 2009 there where only 215 people living in Rufus and so just by my guessing and being almost 2 years later - I'd say a little over 300. Elevation is a 206 feet which is allowing me to breath once again (we lived above 3000 feet for over 2 years). I so feel like running/biking but gosh dang my hernia which is taking it's sweet time healing. The type of jobs fall in these fields, construction-metal industries-trucking transportation-food service-agriculture--- forestry--- fishing and hunting---wind mills service .....
The Mayor of Rufus is Clifford Jett
Things to do while you are in Rufus.....

The Columbia River Basin is North America's fourth largest, draining about 250,000 square miles and extending throughout the Pacific Northwest and into Canada. There are over 250 reservoirs and around 150 hydroelectric projects in the basin, including 18 dams on the Columbia and its main tributary, the Snake River.
-Windsurfing is especially challenging in the Columbia River’s unique wind and water conditions near Biggs and Rufus on I-84.
-The John Day Dam is near Rufus on the Columbia River with Giles French Park located just downstream from the dam.
-Sportsmen come from near and afar to hunt deer, pheasant, quail, chukar, ducks and geese in the fall and winter. Fishing on the Columbia, Deschutes and John Day Rivers is popular and seasonal.
Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery - The Columbia River
Starting in 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the famous Corps of Discovery expedition from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean and back, a journey that lasted two years. Since their instructions came from Thomas Jefferson in 1803, the Lewis and Clark bicentennial runs from 2003 through 2006.

John Day Dam, 216 miles upstream from the mouth of the Columbia River, is at the head of Lake Celilo. The Dam bridges the Columbia River near Rufus, Oregon, and can be reached via exit 109 off Interstate 84 East of The Dalles. Current Homeland Security does not allow visitor access to the any part of the facility.
The project consists of a navigation lock, spillway, powerhouse and fish passage facilities on both shores. Various recreational facilities are provided along the shores of Lake Umatilla and on the John Day River. Lake Umatilla, impounded by the dam, extends upstream about 76 miles to the foot of McNary Dam.
Construction began in 1958 and was completed in 1971, at a total cost of $511 million. At the time of its completion, John Day Dam Powerhouse was the second largest in the world. Completion of the John Day Dam marked the final step in harnessing the lower waters of the Columbia River.
Lake Celilo
Columbia River impoundment of The Dalles Dam, is accessed at the mouth of the Deschutes River at Heritage Landing, at Biggs Junction near the grain storage bins and at Giles French Park at Rufus.
Deschutes River State Park
Deschutes River State Park (say deh-shoots) is an oasis on the east bank of the Deschutes at its confluence with the Columbia River on Highway 30 from I-84 exits at Celilo (seh-li-lo) and Biggs. Amenities include Deschutes River State Park, an interpretive kiosk, an upriver abandoned rail bed trail for hikers and bicyclists (horses in season), camp sites, wildlife, views, restrooms and picnic sites.
The Deschutes appears as Clark's River on the Lewis & Clark map;
Towarnahiooks is a Chinook term used for the river
-The French Canadian fur traders called it Riviere des Chutes," French for "river of the falls."
- History of the Expedition under the command of Lewis and Clark, edited by Elliott Coues.
-Deschutes River Campgrounds in Sherman County

John Day River. Baptiste LePage.
"Monday, October 21st, 1805 ... On the left side of the [Columbia] river at this place are immense piles of rocks, which seem to have slipped from the cliffs under which they lie; they continue till, spreading still further into the river, at the distance of a mile from the island they occasion a very dangerous rapid [Squally Hook]; a little below ... on the right side are five huts. For many miles the river is now narrow ... the hills continue high ... a small river, which seems to rise in the open plains to the southeast and falls in on the left. It is 40 yards wide at its mouth, but discharges only a small quantity of water at present. We gave it the name of Lepage's river, from [Baptiste] Lepage, one of our company. Near this little river and ... below it, we had to encounter a new rapid... At the end of this rapid are four huts of Indians on the right, and two miles below five more huts on the same side. Here we landed and passed the night, after making 33 miles."

enjoy the pictures I took from yesterday and put Rufus on your BUCKLIST of places to visit....

Columbia River

What a wonderful day we had today...
First we slept in till 5am (I know that sounds crazy but we went to sleep around 9pm) and slept all night with out having to hear the plow trucks and traffic. Then we had our morning coffee made by Jorge and awwwwww took a good long look out the window and just stood there with ear to ear grins loving the view. I then hopped back in bed to watch a video (The War Wagon) - we love John Wayne B movies and all. Jorge took each girl out for their walks and just loved the peace of the area.
As much as I would like to brag about todays adventure "I won't". I have to back track a bit and share our adventures of us getting here. And well a picture speaks a thousand words... Enjoy the pictures and come back tomorrow for todays adventures... Tonight I have to work on my crochet Shamrock order and then spend some quality time with my loved ones, Jorge, Milita, SnowPea and JuneBug and smiling because just across the way our friends are parked in who we adore with all of our hearts. Live your dream and not someone elses and if your lucky like I you'll have a spouse that shares the same dream....
